This is a new home for a young family on a flat site with existing mature trees. The house uses a simple rectangular plan that minimises exterior wall area, reducing cost and providing an efficient thermal envelope. While of modest area, diverse spaces with multiple uses, such as covered outdoor areas, give the plan a generosity seldom seen at this scale and budget. The carport has been designed to allow it to be enclosed to become a fourth bedroom if desired in future. The roof form is a simple and easily constructed contemporary variation on a gable, that streamlines the plan, and aids the zoning into living and sleeping areas.
